"Do I Have Power":
A young boy wanders in nature and discovers insects. He is intrigued by this "something else", living in a different way. He is going to try his power on it. But is he really able to have power over it?
Teaching Ideas:
- Describe some of the scenes from the film such as the tumbledown house where the boy lives.
- Write about his 'powers'.
- Tell the story from the insect’s point of view.
- Use 'show not tell' to retell the narrative or to describe the creatures that he finds.
- Use personification to bring the insects to life.
- Write an internal monologue about the change at the end of the film.
- Discuss and write about 'What happens next?'
- Use similes, metaphors and personification to describe the storm.
- At the end of the film, what are the insects saying to the boy?
- Write the conversation, using correct speech punctuation, between the boy and the skeleton.
