pudding Lane

Created by Pudding Lane Productions is a beautiful sweep across 17th Century London, giving your children the perfect stimulus to inspire setting writing for their 'Great Fire of London' topic.   See this film on vimeo
Teaching Ideas
- Take the children back in time to the night before The Great Fire.
- Ask the children what they notice about London at this time.  Is it what they expected?
- What are the differences?  What are the similarities?
- Why is the washing hung across the streets and pigs hanging outside buildings?
- Assign the children roles of various tradespeople who may be living there: baker, butcher, priest, beggar.
- Using drama techniques ask the children to move around the classroom as if it is the street and communicate with each other in role.
- During the drama session, ask the children to go to sleep, they hear noises; screams and crackling awake them.  They smell smoke. How do they react?
- Children can write about their own experiences.
- Write diary entries and news reports of the events.
