Inner Child - McDonalds' Advert 2020

In this film, we see a young lad and his Mum getting ready for Christmas.  We see that the boy is growing up and many of the things that he used to enjoy are now not cool enough for him.  This upsets his Mum and it is not until later in the story that he realises this and makes amends.

Throughout the film we see the young boy's turmoil between his 'inner child' and the cool kid that he is growing up to be. What will his Mum do to bring out the 'inner child'?

Teaching Ideas
  • Retell the story from a character's point of view.  Either Mum or the boy.
  • Retell events as a dual narrative.
  • Retell the story using rich description of the different settings at Christmas.
  • Track the characters' feelings throughout the story and describe them in a narrative using "show, don't tell."

There is a discussion to be had.  Would you like to live forever?  If you did what would be the ideal age to stay at?  Would you like to live forever as a child, as an adult or just continue getting older and older?
Many of these questions are looked at in Ross Welford's book '1000 year-old boy' about a young Viking boy who stays aged 10 for a 1000 years!
