Coming Home - Waitrose 2016

We like this film.  It starts off with an image of a shed!
The film tells the story of a Robin return home from his Scandinavian migration across treacherous seas, to spend Christmas (and eat mince pies) with his 'loved one.'

The 90 second advert has been partnered with a short story written by Michael Morpurgo, which can be bought from Waitrose stores and Waitrose.com or listened to below.

Many schools in the UK have been sent a free copy of the book so check with the Head if they have received theirs.
Teaching Ideas
  • Retell the story in the 1st person as the robin.
  • Rewrite the story as a series of diary/journal entries splitting each location as an entry:
    • the frozen north,
    • the lighthouse,
    • the fishing boat,
    • waking up in the box etc.
  • Describe the weather using a range of descriptive devices such as similes, metaphors and personification.
