Sometimes I find things non-literacy based that I really want to share.

13 x 7 = 28 and 24 divided by 5 = 14
Here is the proof!!

Why we shouldn't just teach processes in Numeracy.  The children must understand the maths behind it.

Queen Victoria's Scrapbook

Picture
Open Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Scrapbook and discover more about Britain's longest reigning Monarch. Through documents from the Royal Archives, paintings and photographs from the Royal Collection, audio and film clips, learn about Queen Victoria's life and reign: from her childhood as a young Princess to her Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 1897; her role as Queen of Britain and its Empire and her life as a wife and mother; her Royal Household and the inventions and improvements of the Victorian era.

Enterprise project - Caine's Arcade

A 9 year old boy who built an elaborate cardboard arcade in his dad's used auto parts store is about to have the best day of his life.  Perhaps your class will be inspired to design and build their own arcade and open it up to the other children and parents one night after school.  Children will have to project takings and balance against cost etc, so lots of skills used.

A 'fun' way to start a bullying debate.

I use this film in assemblies and in PSHE lessons when we discuss, 'What is bullying?'

I show them the film without telling them we are doing a bullying less or a PSHE lesson and they often think it is a treat.

I ask them what they think the video tells us.  Does it have a message?

Children will often say that the small birds were mean to the big bird because he is different.

This sparks the debate.  Who are the mean ones?  Why are they mean?  Are any of the small birds worse then others?

Is there a moral to the story?  Could we give it a new title?

My class love 'The watercycle song!'
