Whistleless has no whistle. Al his friends and family has a whistle - he sets off on an adventure to find a whistle.
A wonderful animation for engaging EYFS and KS1 childre. The children will be able to retell the story, describe the different 'whistlers' that we meet. The yellow man, the police man, the tiger and the elephants. The children can describe the cars crashing and how the little bird is feeling throughout the story.

Blackface is the story of a colonial hunter who goes in search of some exotic monkeys. Shooting them for sport.
He is warned away by a tribal elder, who warns the 'brave' and arrogant explorer about an immortal monkey. The explorer scoffs at the idea and sets off in search of his trophy. The elder casts a spell over the intrepid explorer. Watch the film to see what happens after the explorer finds and shoots a beautiful golden monkey.... |

It was a hot sizzling day, when an aristocratic explorer came. He looked around when suddenly an immortal tribal elder warned him! The arrogant explorer did not listen. "Ha ha ha, and immortal monkey? Nonsense you liar. Move out of my way!" he grumbled.
The exotic explorer lurked his way through the mazy forest - he could hear all kinds of noises! Suddenly, he saw the immortal monkey. "Ha ha, you're mine" he whispered. He held up his hazardous gun when...
...bang!! The monkey fell to the soft, emerald green grass. The aristocratic explorer could not find it... it was gone!
The explorer felt sick. His hands were swelling! "Aarrr!" he screamed! He started running, then crawling like a monkey. He had turned into a little monkey! He began hallucinating - the trees began moving towards him - he was very scared! They brought him to the tribal leader's temple.
When he awoke from his dream he climbed up on top of the temple. He saw a jeep pulling up. The door opened and an aristocratic man stepped out! It was him!!! He felt sick and tormented!

Little Boat by Nelson Boles

A little, red boat is launched. We don't know who by or where but it sets off on a journey.
In this animation the boat is the main character. The children can write the narrative for this story from the point of view of the boat. It is a great way of introducing temporal connectives, children will need to think of words to use instead of then and next. As the boat travels on it's linear journey it sees some amazing sites. |
The boat gets tossed and turned by the weather, it gets caught up in a war and becomes a floating wreck. The children could experiment with using language to create a mood. There are also opportunities to introduce inference and deduction, for example, how does the boat become repaired near to the end.

- Write the narrative for the animation 1st or 3rd person.
- Write the dialogue between the 2 monkeys on the boat or between the soldiers.
- Create a post card album, use stills from the animations as postcards, write home imagining they are the boat, describing what has happened, what they saw and how they are feeling.
The Way Back Home (KS1)
A young boy builds himself a rocket and sends himself off to Space. He lands on a far away planet. His spaceship breaks down, a friendly alien lands and he breaks down too. The little boy parachutes to earth to get some tools to fix the ship. He gets back by way of a huge ladder, fixes the machines and then they both fly off.
It is a really simple adventure (cross-genre) story. I would use this story in KS1 and Y3. It is a simple narrative structure that the children could rewrite the story using connectives to join passages together.
Learning opportunities.
Write a diary/recount of the adventure.
Build a rocket in class and let the children decide where it is going.
Write a holiday brochure page for their destination.
Write dialogue between the boy and the alien.
Write a description of the alien or the strange place in which they land.
